Overall Rating: 1.5/5 Stars
Professional wrestling, for decades, has maintained the dubious distinction of being widely favourite without being a legitimate sport. Set as more of a modern-day combative Greek drama soap opera, the muscular men (and women, occasionally) strap into their tight, colorful spandex outfits and engage in a scripted skit to the delight of violence-loving fans everywhere. Naturally, it followed that many, many wrestling video games would be released over the years, including Pro Wrestling in 1986 for the 8-bit Nintendo Entertainment System home console.
Gameplay
Choosing one of six wrestlers (Fighter Hayabusa, Star Man, Kin Corn Karn, Giant Panther, The Amazon, or King Slender), the one-player mode consisted of a tournament where the player must defeat all the other characters in a row. Losing a match brings up the Game Over screen, whereas winning displays the infamous “WINNER IS YOU” screen. Two-player mode is a single bout against a second player.
Even though it can technically be considered a fighting game, it is rather basic. The B button punches, the A button does a jump kick, apiece character has a grapple move or two, a double-tap of a direction goes into a dash, and stuff can be done when the player launches off the ropes or jumps off the turnbuckle. Hitting the B button near a fallen foe sets them up, dazed, while the A button tries to pin them, a count of 3 ending the match. The characters are just palette swaps of the same basic pixel figure, and their moves are mostly the same, with perhaps the fun exception of The Amazon’s grapple move where he bites the other character in the head a few times.
Graphics
This is a crude-looking video game, albeit not the NES game with the absolute visuals. The animations are terrible and chunky, though, and the other elements do not exactly make up for it. The title screen, for example, is among the worst that the 8-bit Nintendo system has to offer. The hit detection for the sprites is not good at all.
Sound
Simplistic “thumps” and “thugs” are highlighted by bland, repetitive background music. The tracks are serviceable, and at least indicate that a tiny work went into them, but are nonetheless
Originality
This was among the first wrestling games ever prefabricated for the NES, and a very primeval title on its own merits, but even in such context it can hardly be forgiven for shallow gameplay, sluggish graphics, and unimaginative design overall. Once you master the strategy of “Kick the guy to knock him down, climb the turnbuckle and jump onto him, then kick him when he stands up and repeat until it’s time to pin,” the game is pretty dull. It can wage a modicum of lighthearted fun at first, and is admittedly more fun with a second player of course, but this is not a great game, ergo the one and a half stars out of five rating handed out by final boss Grand Puma.

I love professional wrestling. I have been to many events since I was a child. Whether we had nosebleed seats or floor seats, I have always had a blast at each event I have been at. Events are the shows the wrestling promotion puts on. Some are televised while others are just for the arena crowd only, but both are a lot of fun to be at.
If you are ready to attend your first professional wrestling event, then you are definitely in for a treat! I just wanted to share a few tips that I have from experience when going to a wrestling event.
Find The Event and Buy Tickets.
You can usually find a list of events on the official site of the wrestling promotion (most promotions now and days have an official site). Usually the event will include the location, arena, the date of when tickets go on sale, and the ticket prices. Depending on the promotion and event, the prices for an event usually come in a wide range, such as to dollars. The higher the price, the closer the seat is to the ring. But the wide range is good for anyone with different price and seat preferences. Usually on the site you will also find a link of where to purchase the tickets. Make sure to go to that link the day tickets go on understanding to purchase your seats. You can also purchase tickets on the phone or in person, but I usually purchase mine online. It is always good to know the general price you want to pay before buying tickets, as it makes it quicker to find seats in that area. Please keep in mind that you might not always get the seat you want and the talent advertised is subject to change. Also keep in mind that the ticket site might charge an additional fee to extra ticket. For instant, a ticket could actually end up costing you .
Now that you have bought your ticket and decided on how you could like to receive them (snail mail, printing them, or picking them up at Will Call. I usually move for them to arrive in the mail), all you have to do is move until you receive your tickets and move until it is time for the show.
Watching Them Arrive and Leave.
A lot of fans like to go down to the arena the morning of the event to watch the wrestlers, managers, and such arrive. You can usually go primeval (I never go before 9am, as I like to sleep) and move by the parking garage (some arenas might have gates or rails to separate you from the garage, so just move at the gate). Not only will you catch a glimpse of the wrestlers entering, but if they have time, some will also come over and sign autographs or take photos with the fans. You can go home and come back or stay down there all day (personally, I usually stay for a few hours, go home, and then come back later for the event). After the event is over, you can usually go back to the same spot to watch them leave. Some will try to sign or take photos as they leave, but the number of wrestlers who will do that might decrease compared to the morning, as they are exhausted and usually have to get to the hotel, airport, or next town. I have learned with experience that it gets very crowded after the show, so I don’t always move after the shows like I used to. It’s always good to be patient and try not to near others. But please remember, the talent is not indebted to sign autographs or take photos before or after a show.
Making A Sign.
I used to make signs for the wrestling events, but I stopped many years ago as I focus more on taking photos (which will be the next section). Sign making can be a lot of fun. I would recommend using poster board to make your sign on. You can write on it or place photos on it as well, supporting your favorite wrestler. I would personally recommend to place your sign down once the match or interview begins, so that way everyone can see. Now, some events will have security take your sign away or tell you to place it down if it is inappropriate for their event, so I would watch what you place on it. However, some televised events will even ascent in on you and your sign if they like it, so it never hurts to be creative. You never know, you might make it on television! Here is a fun fact I have learned from my friends, sometimes when you meet a wrestler before or after a show, they might autograph your sign!
Take Pictures.
As long as the event and arena grants it, I would recommend taking pictures. If you don’t have a camera, some events will sell disposable cameras at the arena for around (prices might vary per venue though). If you purchase one of those, try to space out the amount of photos you take, so you can get a few from each or most matches and interviews. If you have a regular camera, I would recommend bringing extra film. For a digital camera, bring extra batteries. Either way, come prepared. Taking photos at an event is a lot of fun and you might finding yourself taking over a hundred! For fun, I also like to take photos of my loved ones and I at the events, in front of the ring (even from balcony seats you can get photos with the ring behind you), and of the ring and stage set. Taking photos at events is a lot of fun (as I said) and you can always look back on it.
Buying Merchandise.
Buying merchandise at the events is optional of course, just like everything else. But it can be fun to come home with a souvenir. You can usually find program books (with information and photos of your favorites), apparel, and more at the events. It beats the heck out of paying shipping and handling charges when ordering online. Merchandise and prices will vary per wrestling promotion and event. Of course, the arena will usually sell food and drinks for everyone as well. Personally, my Mom and I love to get a piece of merchandise, cotton candy, and soda, money providing.
Keep Your Ticket Stub.
You do not have to do this, but I would recommend it. It’s great to place in a pic album, scrapbook, or on a bulletin board. You can pull it out and look back. It’ll go great with any photos you have taken at an event. My loved ones and I have a small collection of ticket stubs from the events we have been on over the years. It’s a nice tiny souvenir from the event.
Enjoy The Event.
Whether you decide to make signs, take pictures, or purchase merchandise or not, you will still have fun. It doesn’t matter if you’re in the front row or the last row. The region of being at a wrestling event and witnessing everything in mortal can be such a rush and so much fun. I totally love it. As a matter of fact, just writing this makes me want to go to one soon.
Now that you are done reading this, go enjoy your event! You do not have to do any of the tips I have provided (except buying your ticket to the event, of course), but either way, you are sure to have a great time!
So this week’s Impact started with a recap of the end of the Bound for Glory PPV. Then they showed footage of something that happened prior to the Impact taping, Bischoff speaking to Dixie Carter’s lawyer. They indicated that Bischoff had switched the contract that Dixie signed last week. As I suspected.
Then they cut to the Impact Zone and Hogan and Bischoff came down to the ring to cut their promo. The announcers indicated that Dixie Carter is now the Ex president of TNA. When Hogan got the mic he called referred to TNA as his company. He referred to himself as Holllywood Hogan again. I always liked Hogan superior as a heel. Bischoff started recapping the history of how they took over the company starting with Abyss, then asked him to come to the ring. Abyss has that stupid 2 x 4 still.
The commentators prefabricated it clear that when Dixie thought she was signing Abyss’ termination contract she was really signing the company over to Hogan. I thought they did a poor job of explaining that important part of the story. It would have been superior to see Dixie’s reaction when she found out this happnened. Abyss cut a promo but it was just some standard bragging about how he told us “they” were coming.
Then Bischoff introduced Jeff Jarrett. The twist I certainly didn’t see coming. Although, I still like Jarrett as a heel as well. He’s awesome at it. Jarrett grabbed himself a mic and told us his side of the story about how he didn’t like having Dixie Carter take the company out from under him. He referred to their group as the “New Regime” I don’t know if that is an actual study they selected or if its just part of his monologue.
They were interupted by Fourtune. Led of course by Ric Flair. They prefabricated their way to the ring and Flair grabbed a mic. Flair got really arrogant and stated this company is run by Fourtune. Not by Hogan and Jarrett. I have to admit I find this step in the story silly. We’ve just established Hogan as a heel. Flair is obviously a heel let’s not confuse people…. And then Flair and Hogan hugged. It was all a ruse and I fell for it. So Fourtune is standing side by side with the New Regime.
Then Bischoff introduced Jeff Hardy. Hardy hasn’t been a heel in a very long time so I’m interested in hearing him cut a promo. It was a tiny melodramatic. They took a moment to show Sting and Nash watching the promo in the back on a tv. Bischoff called them out in the form of an invitation to join. Sting was sans make up but as they walked to somewhere it went to commercial.
After commercial they showed Carter travel backstage with a body guard. Then it went back to the New Regime in the ring and Nash and Sting were already out there.
Bischoff got all serious and invited them to join them again. Nash was the first to respond to the invite. But I’ve heard word that this is Nash’s last Impact. So I see him getting a serious beat down soon. Nash of course turned down their invitation. Then Sting responded. He is very passionate about how much he adores TNA. He indicated that his answer is also no. Then both he and Nash left the ring. Bischoff took another moment to try to speak them into it. I have to admit that the story is going well. I just disagree with how they’re telling it. It’s over 30 minutes into the show and there hasn’t been a match yet.
They cut to Sting and Nash travel in the back being confronted by the Pope. He tried speaking the two of them into sticking around but they stated they were leaving TNA and offered to take the Pope with them. He declined saying he was going to stay even if he had to take care the New Regime by himself. By the way, I’m the one saying “New Regime” over and over. It was only stated the one time on the show.
After the Pope walked away Dixie Carter came over to Nash and Sting and pleaded with them to stay. She criticized them for being so cryptic in their warnings to her and us in the past months. Hard to disagree with that. The cryptic stuff was annoying. But at the same time without any evidence what would they say?
Then Bischoff and Hogan came up to Dixie. Dixie slapped Bischoff in the grappling really hard and she got in Hogan’s grappling but Hogan stated if she wanted to speak to him if would be in his office.
Other than a place to sit I don’t see why they went to the office because it was all still shot on video. Bischoff was taking photos of Dixie with his cell phone and that prefabricated her angry. Dixie is really good at this. Hogan called TNA his company and it’s his office. Dixie asked for her bodyguards to remove Bischoff and Hogan from the office but Hogan reiterated that it’s his company and the security guards removed Dixie instead. It was a good segment. Like I stated Dixie is awesome at this. I only disagree with having the meeting in the office. I think it all should have been in the ring in front of the audience instead.
They showed some woman drive into the parking lot in her car. I did not recognize the woman so I’m unclear why there was any focus on her. Was it Ms. Tessmacher? I couldn’t recognize her without her glasses. But again it had no point. Oh… they stated it was someone from the Jersey Shore. A show I don’t watch so apparently I’m a tiny out of the loop on this one.
So finally a match is about to start. It’s literally 46 minutes into the show as per my DVR. President Rayne is travel down the ramp and she is bringing a referee with her. I’m betting that she will demand Tara lay down for her in a Knockout Championship match. President grabbed a mic and started recapping the match she had at the bound for glory PPV. Well, she asked for a title match. Tara came out. President continued her rant going over the history of how Tara was fired from the company and then rehired all because of President on both counts. President stated Tara and her had a deal. And finally the match started and wow, was I right. President demanded Tara lay down and that’s exactly what she did. President Rayne is now the new Knockout champion. President was overjoyed and celebrating. Tara even stayed in the ring and watched President celebrate.
But Madison’s party was cut short by Mickie James’ music. She came out with mic in hand. She talked for a moment before she challenged President to a fight right then and there. She went down the ring where President demanded Tara fight her instead. Mickie kicked Tara out of the ring and that pretty much ended the segment.
That girl from the Jersey Shore was looking for the Knockout titled Cookie backstage and ran crossways the Beautiful People. They all acted like they were good friends and that the Beautiful People would help her find Cookie and they walked off before commercial.
After commercial they got back to the Beautiful People looking for Cookie when they’re disturbed by Eric Young saying “Oh my God” and ‘wait” over and over. He asked the Jersey Shore girl if he is a gorilla and stated he would be her chimp.. Orlando Jordan came over and there was innuendo about a lolly pop. But in the end another wasted backstage segment.
Kurt came to the ring for a promo. He had no entrance theme or introduction of any kind. He hinted he would have a retirement speech and the audience started chanting “please don’t go!” He went over the injuries he sustained at the ppv. But he mainly wanted to know why Hogan and Bischoff screwed him at the ppv. It was Jeff Jarrett that came out to answer him though. Jeff stayed at the top of the ramp. Jeff Jarrett cut deep into Kurt Angle with his words. It was a great promo. He brought some real life stuff into the promo without being too specific. Kurt had some really great retorts though.
Jeff Jarrett admitted that he has sold his soul to the devil all in the study of ruining Angle’s career. That was too much for Angle and started heading towards Jarrett when security knocked him down and handcuffed him. While he was handcuffed Jarrett continued to beat up on Jarrett going so far as to throw him head first into a wall. Just as it looked like he was going to back off Jarrett went back to beat on him some more. It was Taz that broke it up, surprisingly. They did a great job of making it look like Angle was very injured and who knows maybe he was. Taz yelled at Jarrett that he’d gone too far and go to the back. Then it was commercial.
Even though the drama is pretty good I’m very disappointed that we’re 1 hour and 13 minutes into the show and there has only been the one match that lasted all of 10 seconds.
After commercial Samoa Joe had a pretaped promo where he talked directly to the camera as he was travel outside somewhere.
Finally, another match is about to start. Abyss. His opponent is Samoa Joe. I don’t see this match ending well for Joe. Abyss later went outside the ring to grab a chair and before he got back into the ring with it Samoa Joe dove out of the ring between the ropes head first at Abyss. After Abyss recovered though he ended up hitting Joe in the head with the ring bell. Joe started bleeding from the forehead at this point. The referee disqualified Abyss but as things were about to get worse for Joe, RVD came running to the rescue. Abyss left the ring to go to the back. Joe eventually did the same and then RVD grabbed a mic and called out Jeff Hardy.
RVD had a lot to state about Jeff both good and bad but he was disturbed by a pretaped segment of Jeff Hardy on the video monitor. He referred to himself as the anti-Christ of professional wrestling. After that video aired Bischoff came out to tell RVD that he would have a match with Mr. Anderson and the winner of that match would grappling Jeff Hardy at the upcoming ppv.
After commercial Bischoff was speaking with Ms. Tessmacher in the back. There was a lot of innuendo in that conversation. He was at first very friendly but then started yelling at her for getting too friendly with Nash and the Pope. Then stated the only way she could keep working in TNA is if she wrestled. Otherwise she would have to leave. Then Anderson walked up to Bischoff and shook his hand. He called Bischoff a douchebag while obviously shaking Anderson’s hand far to hard.
Pretty much all of Fourtune was to grappling the Pope in a match. 5 on 1 match. Why am I only finding out about this as the wrestler’s are being introduced? The members of Fourtune have to attach in and out. The Pope went outside the ring and got into fights with Flair and Matt Morgan who are only standing at ringside. For some reason the ref either didn’t see this or it’s a no disqualification match. I couldn’t tell. There were several times where it seemed as though the Pope might actually pull off a win but that didn’t last. Beer Money got the pin and they continued to beat up on the Pope after the match. Before commercial they showed Robbie and Cookie travel backstage and then they showed the Beautiful People with the Jersey Shore girl travel in different location backstage.
After commercial Robbie E and Cookie came out to the ring for a tiny mic time. Apparently, Impact is on at the same time as Jersey Shore and because Robbie and Cookie are on Impact the Jersey Shore show is done for.
The Jersey Shore girl is called J-Wow? OK. Well she came out to the ring with the Beautiful People so that J-Wow could get in Cookie’s face. J-Wow didn’t state anything it was Cookie who ran her mouth and slapped J-Wow which caused J-Wow to grab Cookie by the head, throw her to the ground and pule on her for a minute or so until Cookie rolled out of the ring. The segment was a complete waste of time.
The main event of Mr. Anderson versus RVD. Anderson actually skipped his mic time absolutely which is very uncharacteristic.
The show had reached the 2 hour mark as the main event bell rang.
Impact should be over right now and match just started. But they have TNA reaction and don’t have to worry about being exactly 2 hours I guess.
But let me state this. This show has been incredibly disappointing. I know they had a lot of story to go through. I get that. But with the exception of the main event the other 3 matches were a joke. So, let’s go over that one more time. In two full hours they had three matches. One of them lasted less than a minute and it was Tara purposely losing. Another was Abyss getting disqualified just a few minutes into the match. And the last one was a 5 on 1 match. The main event started just a few minutes before they officially ended Impact which was after the 2 hour mark.
The main event was more so on TNA reaction and I have to admit it’s been a decent match. These two men are truly main event quality. After both men were ordered out in the ring looking like they were both hurting Biscoff came out and whispered something to the referee then demanded that he follow him to the back. The match has no referee?. Then Jeff Hardy came out with a steel chair in hand. Jeff started hitting both men with the chair. He place Anderson’s arm in the chair then performed the twist of fate onto RVD onto the chair. Anderson really sold the injury well. The match had no winner or loser and that’s the end of that.
Drama good, wrestling bad. And of course the Shore segment was awful.
I give the show a 4 out of 10. I’m truly confused how a show that has this much talent can be so disappointing. I mean who thought it was a good intent to have 3 matches in two hours (one of which didn’t count)? And I knew there was no way I could anticipate a clean win with the Anderson/RVD match but I was hoping they would surprise me.
This week’s TNA started off recapping the recap they covered at the begin of TNA last week and then recapped the match that Angle had with Jeff Hardy. According to the small amount of research I’ve done last week TNA reaction did have higher ratings than it has in the past and I think its because the match went long into it. I don’t think this is a surprise to anyone. I just thought it was a cheap stunt is all. Well, if you read my last review you’d know that I didn’t schedule a recording for Reaction because I don’t much like the show. Its hard to review as its a lot of commentary and interviews and its hard to watch because its kind of boring. So this weeks Impact recap is showing me footage I haven’t seen before.
Apparently, after the match ended between Hardy and Angle, Bischoff came down to the ring and announced that because there was no clear winner that the three way match he had recommended primeval in the evening would in fact happen at the PPV. This seemed to upset Dixie Carter and she kinda walked away in a huff. Bischoff claimed that he just prefabricated a decision and it wasn’t anything personal.
After all the recapping no time was lost in starting a match, Rob Terry versus Abyss. Before Rob even got to the ring they showed some footage in the back of RVD being, from what I could ascertain, held back by several wrestlers.
Abyss came to the ring with that ridiculous 2 x 4 with nails driven through it that he calls, “Janice.” Barring outside interference Abyss will win this match but I predict some outside interference. If Rob Terry were a superior overall wrestler I would probably like the guy. Obviously, he’s a huge guy but that’s pretty much all he is. Not to recommend Abyss is that fantastic of a wrestler either but at least he has personality. I don’t like the personality but its there.
After several minutes into the match they showed RVD being led by Jeff Hardy to some sort of exit. I presume this will somehow lead to an RVD/Abyss confrontation. After that Abyss and Rob Terry were outside the ring, Abyss grabbed part of the railing used as a barricade to the audience to use it as a weapon. The ref tried to stop him and Abyss kind of pressed the barricade up against the ref into the side of the ring. He then threw the barricade at Rob Terry and Abyss has been disqualified and Rob Terry won. Abyss didn’t stop though he raised the barricade in the air and threw it onto Terry’s back a couple more times. Then RVD came out through the audience with a steel chair. Abyss grabbed Janice and security ran out to keep them from fighting apiece other. RVD hit one of them in the head with his chair and went into the ring to cut a promo. He asked for Eric Bischoff to come out. But first, commercial!
After all the advertising was over Eric was in the ring with RVD. RVD was upset that he is not going to be included in any of the upcoming championship matches including the PPV. He asked the wrestlers involved in the PPV championship match to give him first crack at challenging for it. He indicated that he was certain that whoever won would most likely honor that challenge. Then turned back to Eric to discuss his physical condition. His physician indicated that he would be well enough to return on 10-10-10. Wow, what a coincidence. He asked to fight Abyss at the PPV event and Eric Bischoff gave the go ahead.
With Eric still in the ring (why I have no idea, cause it was way too long) the Pope’s music came on and he came out and walked his way to the ring. He had a mic and asked why he was being neglected. He asked why we wasn’t being included in the championship match in the PPV. He called Bischoff a con man. Bischoff demanded they discuss the matter in the back like professionals.
After they cut to a back stage segment with the beautiful people in their make-up area. Suddenly, Lacey Von Erich went a tiny nuts and started yelling about President Rayne and her stupid body guard, Tara.
How did I know that taking it to the back would be a waste of time for Bischoff and Eric. They showed all of it on camera anyway. Eric told the Pope that if he won in a match against Samoa Joe then they would speak about changing the match to a 4 way.
SIngles match of Jeremy Buck versus Chris Sabin. I predict a win for Jeremy Buck. They spent a tiny time recapping the Generation Me and Machine Gun feud before the match started. Max buck grabbed the leg of microbiologist very primeval on causing microbiologist to begin on his face, the ref clearly saw it and the ref demanded that Max leave ringside. microbiologist is selling a injured neck he got from that double top rope DDT he was given last week.
Having Max Buck removed from ringside was not something I saw coming and I ended up being wrong about who won. microbiologist did a kind of school boy roll up and got the pin. Max Buck came running back out and they both started beating up on Sabin. They did that double top rope ddt again. Max Buck grabbed the championship belt that microbiologist brought to the ring and Generation Me took it with them when they left.
They had a few back stage segments, one showing Lacey and Velvet Sky travel in the back together and then the Pope taking a moment to voice his view on how he feels as though he’s being held back. Then Jeff Jarrett took a moment to voice his view that he doesn’t concur with the Pope about him being held back at all.
Finally, a match is introduced. Hamada and Taylor Wilde versus Lacey Von Erich and Velvet Sky for the knockout attach team championship. I predict a win for Hamada and Taylor Wilde but I state this on the premise that there will most likely be outside interference. The ref at one point permitted a attach between Lacey and Velvet when Velvet was already in the ring. Taz stated its ok because they’re hot women. At least they took time out enough to explain it. I don’t approve but I’m satisfied with the explanation. Several minutes into the match Lacey performed a horrible hurricanrana in the corner onto Taylor Wilde. Obviously Lacey still needs some practice.
Both Hamada and Velvet were knocked out of the ring. Lacey was inactivity to perform some kind of move onto Taylor Wilde when President Rayne ran into the ring and hit Lacey in the back with that motorcycle helmet and then ran back out. The ref was inexplicably dealing with the two knockouts outside the ring and didn’t see it. This granted Taylor Wilde to get the win after kicking Lacey in the head.
When it was clear that Lacey wasn’t doing to well Angelina ran out to the ring and it looked like she was going to chase after President Rayne but she ended up lingering at ring side.
Backstage segment showing Tommy Dreamer and the other members of EV2 entering the arena.
SInce its been a while since we’ve seen Jesse Neil they took some time to recap his time in TNA career and his motivation for wrestling.
After the recap Dixie Carter was sitting with Taz and Tenay to tell them that at the live Impact event 2 weeks from now the main event will be a effort royal with apiece man on the Bound for Glory PPV card and the winner gets 0,000.
Taz asked her about the change to TNA that Dixie had teased some months ago but she stated we’re not going to know more about it until Oct 7th.
Finally, another match started. The Pope versus Samoa Joe. I am a huge fan of the Pope character and I believe that he isn’t given enough screen and mic time over all. A match between him and Samoa Joe should be something that would go on a ideal of DVD. But I’m betting that TNA creative disagrees. Let’s see what happens. By the way I predict a win for Joe. But part of me believes that Sting or Kevin Nash will be out at some point to interfere. I would rather that happen than have this not be the awesome match I think it could be.
Wow, a almost opposite thing happened than I predicted. Instead of Sting coming out Jeff Jarrett did. He didn’t interfere but he did cause a momentary distraction. OK, now Sting and Nash have come out to attack Jeff Jarrett. Samoa Joe place the rear unclothed choke onto the Pope and won the match.
Samoa Joe joined in the fight and the four of them fought outside the ring while the Pope layed in the ring. They actually cut from that to show Christy Hemme run up to Tommy Dreamer backstage to interview him. He indicated that at the Bound for Glory ppv EV2 would have a lethal lockdown with members of Fourtune.
Mr. Anderson came out to the top of the ramp to introduce himself and then headed to ring. He isn’t really dressed to wrestle so I thought it was weird that he went down to the ring to grab a regular mic to cut a promo. He called Kurt Angle to the ring to speak with him personally. Anderson, after a lot of talk, told Angle that Angle was the ideal in this business. But on 10-10-10 Anderson plans on being just a tiny bit better. Angle took mic in hand and cut an awesome promo himself, primarly about how he stated if he doesn’t win he will retire from wrestling. Anderson and Angle shook hands and Anderson raised Angle’s hand in the air and said, “Kurt Angle everybody….. for the very last time.” This kind of angered Kurt Angle but he left the ring and there was no fighting or anything.
Backstage segment with Fourtune. Flair pretty much just giving an insprirational speech to his crew. They had some weird thing about being iced. He had a bottle of something alchoholic in his jacket. The rule of being iced is that you have to chug the bottle on one knee. Flair chugged it down. Kind of a silly segment.
After commercial they had another backstage segment with Nash, Sting and the Pope. Nash is asking the Pope for “information” whatever that’s supposed to be. Then they got all extra extra cryptic. They asked whether he had gotten any information from Tessmacher. The Pope then asked if they knew what that info was, they indicated that yes they did. The Pope then stated he was “in” which means he is joining Sting and Nash in their campaign against unexplained evil. Are we all going to have to move until 10-10-10 for anything to be explained?
They took some time to video recap the history of EV2 and Fourtune. They then explained the rules of a Lethal Lockdown match. Sabu versus A.J. Styles in a match. Whoever wins gives their man a lead in the Lethal Lockdown match. Heels are always destined to win a match like this so A.J. Styles will win. But I bet it will be an awesome match because its going to be a harm match. Whoever uses the harm to get a key hanging above the ring wins.
And another week goes by with the television title not being defended. While Sabu came out alone, A.J has Flair and Matt Morgan at ringside. After some pretty good wrestling and just before commercial Mick Foley came out to the ring.
The harm and steel chair were used very liberally throughout the match. As Mick Foley started getting in Ric Flair’s grappling Matt Morgan attacked him from behind. Tommy Dreamer ran down to ringside but was sideswiped by Kazarian. Then the rest of EV2 and Fourtune all ran out and started fighting apiece other. Sabu was about to climb the harm and win when Robert Roode stopped him. Then Rhino gored Roode and then Storm super kicked Rhino. Just as Sabu was about to win again, Storm grabbed Sabu and hit him in the head with a beer bottle. Then Storm grabbed A.J. off the mat and kind of pushed him up the harm so that A.J. could grab the key and win the match. Check your history, the heels always win a match of this kind.
Backstage segment of Hardy telling RVD that if Hardy wins the match he’ll give RVD that title match. The camera kind of lingered on Hardy long after RVD left the room and then Hardy was attacked by Abyss. Most of it happened off camera. We could just hear it.
After commercial there was another backstage interview of Kurt Angle with what he thinks about Abyss and the 10-10-10 crew that he states will show. Then they reshowed the footage of Abyss attacking Hardy even though like I stated before most of it was off camera.
Then Abyss was carrying Hardy’s body to the ring. Hardy was unconscious and sprawled out in the middle of the ring while Abyss grabbed a mic to cut a promo speaking to RVD. He started speaking about “they” again. He reiterated that “they” would be taking over TNA and that Abyss would be ending RVD in the match they’re going to have on 10-10-10. But Janice just can’t move till 10-10-10. Abyss asked for RVD to come to the ring now and that’s exactly what happened. RVD came out with chair in hand. He threw the chair at Abyss and hit him in the head with it. He did it again and then tried it a third time when Abyss got the superior of him and started beating on him.
Abyss grabbed that stupid 2 x 4 and acted as though he was going to use it. Impact ended and Reaction again and suddenly Ink Inc came out to help RVD. It’s a good thing they showed that video package of Jesse Neil primeval or new viewers might not know who he is……
Abyss cut a promo directly into a lense of a camera outside the ring telling Dixie Carter that she needs to begin looking for new employment. “They” superior be someone freaking awesome like Shane McMahon or something.
The matches were ok. They weren’t the worst I’ve ever seen. The backstage segments weren’t great and they were fantastic compared to last week’s awful material. But in the end the ideal I can give this weeks show is a 6 out of 10. It was mainly bad for the cryptic crap going on between Sting, Nash and the Pope. Not to mention the crypticness of Abyss as he does apiece week. Also the knockout attach match was too predictable as was the harm match.
