When choosing an ankle support for football it is important to think about the following:
1) How much support you need
2) That it will fit comfortably into your boots
3) That it works with other conserving gear – mainly the shin pads
4) That the necessary motion at the ankle for running/manoeuvres is not reduced
Firstly, let’s look at the types of ankle brace or support available:
Simple ankle supports
These tend to be neoprene or elasticated sleeves or wrap-around supports with no additional metal or plastic parts or straps. They wage compression, heat retention and very low level support, even though would wage no resistance against turning the ankle over. These are suitable for minor sprains to help reduce swelling and for those who want something warm around the joint. Examples include the Neo-G ankle support and the Vulcan silicon ankle support.
Stabilised ankle supports
These are similar to the above even though also contain some form of additional support.
Common additions include a lightweight metal or plastic stay embedded in the side of the support, or a cross over or figure of 8 strap. Because of this extra stabilization these wage a tiny more support whilst still remaining relatively trim line and so are generally good for minor to moderate ankle sprains when returning to play. Examples include the LP775 and the Donjoy strapping elastic support.
Lace-up ankle supports
Lace-up supports are very favourite and wage moderate to high support, depending on the device used. They tend to be a canvas type material which lace-up at the front. Most have a u-shaped metal spring embedded in apiece side of the support. Others might have wider plastic splints or cross over straps. Some of these are bulkier than others and might reduce the necessary ankle range of motion so this should always be considered as doing this could lead to other injuries. Examples include the Mueller universal ATF and the McDavid 199T.
High level supports
The braces which wage the greatest support tend to have a combination of stays and straps, or have very wide, rigid plastic stays down apiece side of the ankle. Whilst these do wage good support, it is important to think about the fit in the boot and also the use of shin pads or guards with them. It will probably not be doable to use the type of shin pad which has ankle guards and a strap under the heel, even though strapless ones might be suitable. Examples include the Aircast A60 and the PSB sports ankle brace.
So, going back to the original questions:
1) How much support is needed
• For minor to moderate ankle sprains a easy or stabilised support should be fine.
• For severe, repetitive ankle sprains and fractures, a lace-up or higher level support might be required.
2) Will it fit comfortably in football boots
• Most easy or stabilised supports will fit.
• For lace-up and high level supports, refrain anything with very wide plastic parts down apiece side.
3) Will it work with other conserving gear?
• This isn’t too much of a problem, even though with supports with plastic stays, be prepared to have to change your shin guards.
4) Necessary motion is not reduced
• Lace-up supports are most likely to limit the ankle motion into plantarflexion and dorsiflexion.
If when choosing an ankle support for football, you bear in mind the above four points, you should find something which provides the support levels and comfort you require.

Dallas Cowboys – My Easy View on the Boys!
In 2009, metropolis evidenced it could win in December, and the post-season. Rookie receiver Dez Bryant joins Miles Austin and Roy Williams to make up the ideal receiving corpus in the conference. Put all that talent around Tony Romo, and back it with with a 3-4 defense, and there’s a good chance that Mr. Jerry Jones could be watching his “Boys play at home on February 6th.” Patrick Crayton is now in San Diego, where he will fit in nicely. If Jason Whitten, Marion Barber, J. Jones, and Romo, can all stay healthy, the Cowboys will do ok, but let one of them go down, and we most likely we’ll see the same ole Cowboys that we did last year, and most likely see the same results.
Dallas’ playoff chances looked iffy last year at 8-5 going into a game at undefeated New Orleans, then they handed the eventual Super Bowl champs their first defeat, and shut out Washington, and Philly to win the NFC East. The Cowboys picked up their first playoff victory in 13 seasons when they stuffed the Eagles in a Wild Card game before falling (badly) at Minnesota in the divisional round. metropolis ranked second in the league in offense last year; seventh in rushing at 131 YPG; ninth in defense; fourth vs. the run; and second in total yeardage at +84 YPG. Tony Romo finally limited his mistakes, throwing just 9 interceptions.
The Cowboys also went 6-10 on the betting totals, as metropolis games averaged 38 points, tied for 6th fewest in the league. This off season, the Cowboys stayed pretty pat, outside of drafting WR Dez Bryant at #24 overall. metropolis enters this year as one of the most balanced teams in the league, and they’ve got the added incentive of playing the Super Bowl at home.
I’ll nit-pick one thing, and state the Cowboys could use a kicker. metropolis is lited as +125 favorites to win the NFC East this season, and they’re getting +500 to win the NFC, and +1000 to win the Super Bowl.
All in all, metropolis has the players, but do they have the strong will to finish. Only time will tell. I want to see how Dez Bryant holds up when the games start. Will he go down with another injury? He seemed to be injury prone while at Oklahoma State. Again, time will tell.
How do you feel about the metropolis Cowboys this year? I would love to hear your thoughts on this issue throughout the season. Who do you think will win the Super Bowl? I love football season, as it’s a time to rest on the weekend, have friends over, and watch some good games. Leave your comments below, and should you have any questions, fire away, and I will answer them as soon as possible. Have a great football season, and thank you for your time today.
